Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Isaiah 43:5

Routines help us feel in control of the tiny piece of life we’ve been given. We are surrounded by destinations that call us: work, relationships, appointments, ________ (add your own list item). These things are necessary but they carry with them a certain diversion that if you’re not careful will give you a false sense of security. The diversion is a false path that promises answered prayers and safety when you reach the end of it. Our earthly destinations are like revolving doors that keep our mind occupied as they spin us around. The diversion distracts us from a key biblical truth, that we are already home. Jesus said, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.” (John 14:23) The living God and his only Son Jesus Christ live in YOU! It’s hard to comprehend but it’s a truth that will release you from the chains of mental stress that come from traveling down paths that take us away from our true home.

God reminds us not to be afraid because fear holds us captive from living life to the fullest. “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.” (Matthew 7:24,25) Practice meditating on the fact that you are a spiritual dwelling and Christ is your foundation. The rain (work) will fall, the streams (the demands of others) will rise, and the winds (appointments) will blow (tempt) and beat (cause anxiety) against you; but you will never fall because your are built on Jesus. Proverbs 24:3 says, “By wisdom a house is built…” You are free from fear, because the Builder of your house lives within you!
