The worship of God through adoption means that we take the talents God has given us and use them to defend the fatherless. Love. Hope. Defend. It’s our calling. Adoption should become our desire as we seek to worship the Lord according to his terms, like my friend Yalo and his family in Addis who have nothing by the worlds standards, but everything in the Lord’s.
The nearly 150 million orphans in the world are waiting for us to step up and out in faith. We need to continue to care about what God cares about. When we do something about the fatherless (because we can!), we do something for God. Not that He needs us to do anything, but in His sovereignty He knows how much fuller and richer our walk with Him will be when we do the Christian life.
Consider how meeting the needs of orphans is a great first step in carrying out the Great Commission. Embrace the humbling truth that we are all orphans who have been graciously and sacrificially adopted into the glorious kingdom of God. The Lord stands at the door of our heart, knocking. If you haven’t done so, let him in and your life will never be the same. If Jesus has already made his home in your heart, listen to him talk to you about the blessing of adoption. “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” Let’s go worship God with pure hearts and defend a fatherless child. Life will never be the same.
